Team Leader Lifeguard
In a newly-established position, we’re looking for an experienced Team Leader to oversee the management and co-ordination of our Lifeguard team and daily operations of our pool space within our multi-use sport facility including two Olympic sized swimming pools, Learn to Swim pool and common associated spaces. Our lifeguard team plays a vital role in the health and safety of our pool environment, set up for our events and operations, and providing exceptional customer service to our members and customers. As Team Leader, you’ll set the standard for service, expertise and dedication to safety for our team to follow. You are someone with a professional, positive attitude, can act as a mentor for our Shift Supervisor team, and lead our lifeguard team to be motivated and engaged.
Key to this role is your ability to connect with people, and a commitment to the purpose and vision of AUT Millennium – helping people be the best they can be. You’ll be a strong advocate for the value of our aquatic programmes and actively seek to enhance and improve on the delivery of our services.
With your knowledge and experience of aquatics and lifeguarding, you will be responsible for staff rostering, staff training and professional development, maintaining our annual Poolsafe certification, operation of the plant rooms, and ensuring our water quality adheres to national standards. You will also assist in the preparation and delivery of a range of pool events across the year from school swimming sports to national and international championships. You’ll be just as comfortable in a managerial environment as you are on poolside, knowing the importance of internal and external relationships to running an effective aquatic centre.
To be successful in this position, it is essential that you have the following:
- A dedication to exceptional customer experience
- A minimum of five years lifeguarding experience
- Experience in a management/team leader role
- Comprehensive First Aid Certificate, including oxygen and defibrillator training
- Valid Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate
- Aquatics Pool Lifeguard Level Three
- Aquatics Senior Pool Lifeguard Level Four
- Sound working knowledge of health and safety legislation
- Current Pool Water Treatment and Chemical Handling certificates would be preferred, but are not essential for someone with the right level of experience and competency to quickly obtain these.
In return for your expertise and commitment, you’ll receive a competitive remuneration package including access to our world-class facilities. We promote work-life balance and encourage staff to get active and use our gym, pools and track to help you be the best you can be both in your role and away from work.
If you’re keen to be part of a team passionate about health and wellness, from the community through to high performance sport, we’d love to hear from you. To express your interest, please upload your cover letter and CV via Seek.
You must have the right to live and work in New Zealand to apply for this position.
