• Athlete Development’s Movement Camp

A programme focused on getting young people moving, having fun and learning.
    2nd – 6th October 2017

Sport is one of the best things a child can do. Active kids are healthier, happier, and do better in school. But fruitful participation in sport and physical activity relies on more than just turning up to play.

A solid foundation of physical fitness, including mastering fundamental movement skills and developing a solid base-level of strength.

Irrespective of the sport your child participates in, they’ll be required to generate force (e.g., to jump or accelerate) and absorb force (e.g., to stop or land) when faced with any physical challenge.

To do this safely and effectively, your child requires a strong body (muscle strength) that moves in the correct way (fundamental movement skills).

Why are fundamental movements and athletic skills so important?

Just like reading and writing, good movement is a learnt skill that needs to be correctly developed.

Unfortunately, most junior sporting environments do not teach fundamental movement and athletic skills well, if at all.

And, here’s the thing.

A child can get by with poor movement skills in the short term – the body is incredibly good at adjusting.  But over time it restricts a child’s ability to pick up new sports skills quickly and effectively, which leads to slower progress, feelings of frustration and disappointment, and ultimately, dwindled enjoyment.

What’s more, injury risk goes up significantly.
